In 1968, women represented only 2.6% of the Italian Parliament and Emma Bonino entered Parliament in 1976 as one of the few female voices in an Assembly designed by and for men.

Not every inequality is an inequity. But every inequity, in the end, is an injustice: differences that could have gone differently, but that we produced, tolerated, or let settle until they came to look inevitable.
